Our Story

Southpointe church began in the sunmmer of August 2009 when a vison was given to Jerry Ray Underwood. The vision was to create a diverse space of worship that people throughout the community could both Celebrate Jesus, Connect with other believers and Contribute to the kingdom. Begining with a handful of team members and about 12 service attendees, Southpointe was born. Over the coarse of  a year, the attendance would tripple and God began to move in the lives of the of the church. Eventually, the congregation grew beyond the buildings capacity and God opened the doors for southpointe to move to a much larger location. In June of 2021, Pastor Jerry Underwood decided to retire as the lead pastor and the youth pastor was called to step until the role as lead pastor of Southpointe. We have had a lot of ups and down fro tragedy to absolute loss but in the end, we're still together, living life and building kingdom community. We are devoted to God's people and will continue to reach for those who are not of this fold! Praise God!

Heading 2

Our Approach

A Healthy Church

“They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to fellowship.” - Acts 2:42

  1. The Church is a fellowship.

“Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ, we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts according to the grace given us.” - Rom. 12:4-6

  2. The Church is a body.

“When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that He was eating with the sinners and tax collectors they said to His disciples. Why is He eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners? And hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick, I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” - Mark 2:16

  3. The Church is a hospital.

“Jesus said, Simon, son of John, do you love me? He answered Yes, Lord, you know that love you. Jesus said, “Take care of My sheep.” - John 21:16

  4. The Church is a flock.

“You should be like one big happy family, full of sympathy toward each other, loving one another with tender hearts and humble minds.” - 1 Peter 3.8

5. The Church is a family.

“You are a member of God’s very own family and belong in God’s household with every other Christian. Eph. 2:19

“All the believers were together and had everything in common... And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” -Acts 2:44. 47

Core Beliefs

  1. One Holy God - Eternally existent in three persons: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  2. The Holy Bible - Is the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God and the source of Christian belief and teaching.

  3. Man - Was created in the image of God but fallen - lost and powerless to save himself.

  4. Jesus Christ - Is the Virgin-born Son of God and was crucified to take upon Himself the punishment for the sin of all mankind. He arose from the dead; thereby conquering sin, death and the grave. Jesus will personally return to the earth in glory and take Christians to Heaven.

  5. Man’s Only Hope - Is to believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

  6. What We Celebrate - Water Baptism and Holy Communion are among the ways we celebrate the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Every service is a celebration of the hope we have in Christ.

  7. Healing - Consistent with His ministry on earth, Jesus Christ still offers healing for our physical, relational, and emotional needs.

  8. Holy Spirit - Indwells those who receive Christ and empowers believers to live righteous and holy lives. We believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. along the Gifts of the Spirit found in 1 Corinthians 12. We believe these gifts are available to believers today

  9. Lifestyle - When a life is changed by the love of Christ, we begin a journey of becoming like Christ. It is displayed inwardly by joy and peace; outwardly by a life of integrity and service: and relationally by love and grace. Our lives are directed by the commandments found in God’s Word and the leadings of the Holy Spirit.

  10. Eternity - Jesus will return and show himself to be King of Kings. No one knows the day or time that he will return. Life as we know it will come to an end and everyone will be held accountable for the choices in their lives. Heaven awaits those who have a personal relationship with God, without the influence of evil and pain. Separation from God (Hell) is filled with regret and suffering and awaits those who reject Christ as their personal savior

  11. The Church - The Body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head, is comprised of believers who have been spiritually changed by the atonement of Jesus Christ and the personal work of the Holy Spirit. Christians are called to pursue God’s mission, both collectively and individually. For some it is a vocation, for all it is a passion.
