At SouthPointe Church, we expect our members to support the church with their time, talents, and treasure (money). Jesus gave some very unconventional financial advice when He said, "Fear not little flock, for it is your father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give them to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Luke 12:32-34).

In this passage, Jesus warns us of the dangers of making bad financial investments while living on this earth. Rather than investing only in the temporal, he challenges us to invest in eternity, where gifts are mothproof, rustproof, and thiefproof.

With this in mind, at SouthPointe, we deeply desire to honor God with our "tithes" (firstfruits), and with our "sacrificial" and "generous" giving. A "tithe" is 10% of our income. "Sacrificial" and "generous" giving is dependent upon the generosity of the giver. As a church, we believe both kinds of giving are taught in Scripture.

"Honor the Lord with your capital (substance) and sufficiency, and with the firstfruits of all of your income" (Proverbs 3:9; see also Deuteronomy 6:2; Malachi 3:10; and Luke 14:13,14).

"Remember this. He who sows sparingly and grudgingly will also reap sparingly and grudgingly, and he who sows generously will also reap generously, and with blessings. Let each one give as he has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God loves (He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things) a cheerful, joyous giver, whose heart is in his giving" (2 Corinthians 9:6,7).

The best way to express this honor as individuals is by giving our "tithes" and "offerings" on a regular basis during the "Offering" portion of our services, by mailing your contribution to the church office, or by donating online. We encourage you to give regularly and generously as God directs you.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS ON GIVING
First, God doesn't need our money. He already owns it all. But when we willing set aside the first part of our income for giving, "our hearts will then be turned to Him" (Matthew 6:21).

Giving is an antidote for materialism. The Bible says that giving allows us to "take hold of the life that is truly life". You aren't really living if you aren't giving (1 Timothy 6:19).

Giving is the only area of our lives where God invites us to test Him. We are to give to God to see if He will open the floodgates of heaven to bless us (Malachi 3:10; Proverbs 3:9,19).

Even when the stock market is down, you can still make an investment that pays dividends for a lifetime and beyond. Only two things last forever; the church and people. By investing in the life-changing message of the church, you can leverage your money for eternity
(1 Timothy 6:7).
